When the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve, the arrival of 2021 was particularly significant for The Winnipeg Foundation. It marked the beginning of its 100th anniversary.
Manitoba Opera is pleased to partner with The Winnipeg Foundation to celebrate this centennial. As a Season Sponsor, The Winnipeg Foundation will support Manitoba Opera’s mainstage programming throughout the 2021 calendar year.
This is certainly not the first time that The Winnipeg Foundation has helped Manitoba Opera with its mission of changing people’s lives through the glory of opera. The Winnipeg Foundation has long recognized the arts’ role in creating vibrant communities, and through its many granting programs, has helped Manitoba Opera to build our capacity and programming in countless ways over the decades.
As Canada’s first community foundation, The Winnipeg Foundation has been working since 1921 to create ‘a Winnipeg where community life flourishes for all’. Since the pandemic hit, the organization’s support has proved itself more important than ever.
In July of 2020, Manitoba Opera was one of 279 Winnipeg charities who benefitted from $8.9 million in emergency support from the foundation’s Stabilization Grant program. The program came together quickly – in a matter of weeks – in order to provide Winnipeg charities with responsive and flexible funding to help navigate the challenges of the pandemic.
At a century old, The Winnipeg Foundation shows no signs of slowing down. They are busy creating new granting programs to continue supporting Winnipeggers throughout the pandemic and beyond, and recently announced the appointment of a new CEO, Sky Bridges, who will lead the organization as their second century begins.
As a sponsor of Manitoba Opera’s activities in 2021, The Winnipeg Foundation is ushering in yet another century of community-driven generosity. We look forward to seeing the many ways in which The Winnipeg Foundation will keep our prairie community vibrant and thriving, For Good. Forever.
