TD CONNECTS WITH THE SOLO SESSIONS

In a year that has seen live performance shut down, Manitoba Opera has looked for new and innovative ways to connect with audiences.

Finding new ways to help people connect is also important to TD, and why they are a Performance Sponsor of The Solo Sessions, a series of online musical performances that will highlight five Winnipeg artists working in a range of genres. Believing that “music is where we all belong,” TD supports projects that can bring people together virtually, especially when we can’t be together in person.

TD’s commitment to making cultural events accessible and inclusive is even more crucial in this unprecedented time, as Manitoba Opera works to stay in touch with long-time supporters and connect with new audiences.

TD is also here to help as Manitoba Opera looks at ways to go beyond the concert hall experience. The online format may be a necessity during COVID-19, but it can also be an opportunity. With The Solo Sessions, Winnipeg filmmaker Deco Dawson isn’t just recording the performances of Lizzy Hoyt, Lisa Bell, Aaron Hutton, James McLennan, and Stephanie Sy; he’s using the digital medium to create something intimate and cinematic. By crafting a different kind of audience experience, the series will showcase the talents of these emerging Winnipeg artists in an exciting new way.

One of the few constants in an unpredictable year, TD’s ongoing support has been crucial to developing and delivering The Solo Sessions, even as circumstances have changed due to the pandemic.

The challenges of these past months have also underlined the importance of TD’s longstanding commitment to funding cultural events that help create resilient and connected communities. As The Solo Sessions reaches out to music lovers, it’s reassuring to know that even if people are watching and listening from their living rooms, they can come together through the power of a shared musical experience.
