Stantec: Nurturing the Arts, Fostering Connection

Dec 14, 2023

Stantec enthusiastically supports the arts, offering local artists and performers a valuable opportunity to showcase their work and connect with the audience. An industry leader in professional design and consulting services, Stantec makes community support an integral part of their business.

Founded in 1923, Stantec’s Material Testing Lab (formerly National Testing) has been serving the Manitoba community for 100 years. Throughout the last 100 years, the company’s presence has only grown in Winnipeg through acquisitions of engineering and architectural firms. Today, Stantec unites over 300 employees who are dedicated to excellence in design and execution, and take pleasure in creating spaces that we can all take pride in.

Stantec’s story is the story of relationships with their clients. It’s the story of how the firm has continued to improve the quality of life in communities around the world, while working behind the scenes through projects. Stantec takes pride in their long history of being part of the communities they serve. Starting in 1954 as a one-person firm, today, the Stantec family unites approximately 28,000 employees working in over 400 locations across six continents.

An important supporter of Li Keur: Riel’s Heart of the North, Stantec values opportunities for meaningful connection and understanding between communities. With a production focused on celebrating Métis women and culture, Li Keur has demonstrated a new way of sharing this cultural landscape with audiences and the importance of amplifying Indigenous voices.

Stantec creates opportunities by inviting, embracing, and celebrating differences. This goal remains at the heart of their efforts to champion inclusion, diversity, and equity throughout the organization. They are committed to improving connection, flexibility, and flow as they continue to grow and evolve.

Stantec designs with community in mind, and to genuinely fulfill that promise, they commit to equity in design and to be representative of the many communities they serve. Stantec is committed to doing their best work for their clients and to having a lasting impact on our world.

We are grateful to Stantec for their ongoing support of Manitoba Opera, and for providing equitable opportunities within the arts.

Why I Donate: Dale Sulymka

“It inspires me to see great performances,” says Dale Sulymka. “You watch the crowd coming out after a Manitoba Opera performance and everyone’s happy. There’s a kind of buzz.”   Dale knows about the work that goes into making these moments happen. He’s retired now, but for seven years he was the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Manitoba Opera, and before that he worked with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet for 24 years.    “Being in arts administration for 30 years, I know the financial side can be challenging,” Dale states.  That’s why as Manitoba Opera’s CFO he advocated for an endowment campaign.
