As the Opening Night Dinner Wine Sponsor for the 2023/24 season, Manitoba Liquor Marts is ensuring an unforgettable evening for opera patrons by creating bespoke mocktails themed to the operas.

As Manitoba Opera welcomed the community to the world premiere of Li Keur: Riel’s Heart of the North, Manitoba Liquor Marts also welcomed our Opening Night Dinner guests, elevating the evening with a new kind of sampling experience. To compliment the world premiere of this new Indigenous-led opera, Manitoba Liquor Marts sampled an icewine from Nk’Mip Cellars, the first Indigenous winery in Canada, alongside Manitoba Opera’s inaugural DrinkSense mocktail tasting.

Collaborating with the Li Keur: Riel’s Heart of the North Advisory Committee, a refreshing mocktail capturing the essence of the opera was crafted: The Saskatoon Spritz. With natural ingredients like blueberries, maple syrup, and Saskatoon jam, this alcohol-free option resonated with guests, providing an inclusive opportunity to enhance their enjoyment of the evening.

Our Carmen Opening Night Dinner guests can expect a deeply flavourful and passionate mocktail to complement the compelling narrative of Carmen, ensuring an unforgettable experience.

Saskatoon Spritz

Ingredients:

1/4 cup fresh blueberries
2 tbsp Saskatoon jam
1 tsp maple syrup
soda water
fresh rosemary to garnish

To Prepare:

Muddle berries, saskatoon jam, and maple syrup in a glass.
Add ice and top with soda water. Stir to combine.
Garnish with blueberries and a sprig of fresh rosemary.
