Lecture & Set Tour: The Art of Soft Scenery

Tuesday, November 18 at 5:15 pm - 6:30 pm

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

Discover the fascinating history behind the Tosca set which is THE LAST example of a “soft scenery” set in use since its creation in Italy in the 1950s, learn about the art of creating soft scenery, and have an opportunity to go on stage to see the set up close. The extraordinary artistry on display in Tosca’s hand-painted sets uses trompe l’oeil to create convincing illusions and would be prohibitively expensive to produce today.

Presented by Adam Parboosingh, Chair of the Department of Theatre and Film at the University of Winnipeg, and Leona Herzog, former Director and Curator of the Buhler Gallery at St. Boniface Hospital.

5:15 pm (Doors open at 4:45 pm). Lobby and stage, Centennial Concert Hall.
